What is SMC-L?

SMC-L is awarded for the most severe service-connected disabilities involving loss or loss of use of multiple extremities, severe blindness, or being permanently bedridden/needing regular aid and attendance.

Qualifying Conditions (any one qualifies)

  • β€’Anatomical loss or loss of use of both feet
  • β€’Anatomical loss or loss of use of both hands
  • β€’Anatomical loss or loss of use of one hand and one foot
  • β€’Blindness in both eyes with visual acuity of 5/200 or less
  • β€’Permanently bedridden due to service-connected disabilities
  • β€’In need of regular aid and attendance due to service-connected disabilities
